These collectors had a keen eye for art and sought out 15th and 16th-century sculptures and paintings. They soon built up a collection of inestimable value. ‘De Dulle Griet’ (‘Mad Meg’) by Pieter Bruegel and Jean Fouquet’s ‘Madonna’ were the standouts of the exhibition, and they shone among dozens of other highlights in the collection from the late medieval period to the Renaissance.

The exhibition in Museum Mayer van den Bergh displayed a whole array of outstanding work. The museum wanted to provide visitors with information on every piece in the collection. Considering the incredible amount of content and the inestimable work involved in producing this content in four languages, the museum required a user-friendly tool.

Solution

Due to space limitations, and the team’s preference for audio content, the museum decided to provide visitors with information on the works of art exclusively via audio. From the start, the Podcatcher was taken into account in the development and design of the exhibition. For example, the iDentifier accompanying the Pieter Bruegel centrepiece, ‘De Dulle Griet’, is in a different colour and is differently lit.

The texts were written by an external editor and recorded by two voices representing the collectors Florent van Ertborn and Fritz Mayer van den Bergh. The audio tour was recorded in an audio studio (MediaMixers) in Antwerp. Guide ID advised and supported the museum while uploading the content and installing the iDentifiers.
